Indian Current Affairs, November 2011(Part - 2)

Hello viewers. This time I bring the current affairs of the last month that is November 2011 which is totally India related. I hope visitors may like it.
This is the second set of Indian Current Affairs, November 2011.

  • cientists discovered two sunken islands in the Indian Ocean, which once formed part of the last link between India and Australia.
  • SAIL & Posco signed MoU to develop a feasibility study to establish a joint venture company.
  • India won the three-match series with 2-0 lead ahead of the final Test match against West Indies in Mumbai.
  • Two inscriptions- Tamil & Kannada belonging to the reign of the Rashtrakuta King, Krishna III, were found at Vallimalai village.
  • The Planning Commission of India gave investment clearance for Anti Erosion measures to protect 2 villages, Moisa and Belguri from erosion of River Gangadhar, Assam, with an estimated cost of 14.97 Crore rupees.
  • Richa Mishra became the first woman to clock the best Indian time in 800m freestyle. on 17 November 2011.
  • Standard & Poor's attributed slow infrastricture development in India to lack of reforms & limited long-term funding options.
  • Finance Ministry increased investment limit for FII in government securities (G-secs)& corporate bonds by $5 billion each.
  • Fujitsu announced that it would expand its footprint in India by opening a new delivery centre in Bangalore.

  • The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visited Indonesia and Singapore.The Prime Minister attended the 9th ASEAN-India and East Asia Summits at Bali in Indonesia.

  • The Supreme Court of India ruled that a Hindu Woman cannot be evicted from the matrimonial home after divorce.
  • CPI for food, beverages and tobacco went up by 1.06% to 114.4 points in October from 113.2 points in September 2011.
  • Supreme Court of India ruled that serious offences like attempt to murder cannot be settled through compromise deals and the accused must suffer conviction and imprisonment.
  • Former telecom minister Sukh Ram sentenced to 5 years imprisonment for his alleged involvement in telecom scam.
  • The Uttar Pradesh assembly on 21 November 2011passed a resolution seeking to divide the state into four parts namely; Purvanchal, Pashchim Pradesh, Avadh Pradesh, and Bundelkhand.

  • Union cabinet approved 51% FDI in multi-brand retail & also decided to raise the cap on foreign investment in single-brand retailing to 100%.
  • Actor Aamir khan to be appointed the national ambassador of UNICEF on 30 November 2011.
  • RBI cleared Air India’s loan restructuring proposal thereby extending AI’s loan tenures from 10 to 15 years.
  • Tamilnadu government banned the screening of English film Dam 999 with immediate effect The movie is believed to be based on disputed Mullaperiyar Dam between Tamilnadu and Kerala.
  • Food inflation dropped to a four-month low of 9% for the week ended 12 November 2011.
  • Under the SC directive, a team of the Survey of India on 25 November started checking the foundations of the Taj Mahal.
  • Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs cleared 18 FDI proposals enabling a forex inflow of about Rs.2126.20 crore.
  • ONGC won their maiden Nehru Cup title by defeating Punjab National Bank 1-0 at the Dhyanchand Stadium.

  • Indian e-commerce Market Estimated to Grow to $24 billion by 2015 from the Current $6.3 billion.
  • Renowned sarangi maestro and singer Ustad Sultan Khan of the Indore Gharana died on 27 November 2011.
  • Leading research firm, CMIE scaled down India’s GDP forecast to 7.8% for 2011-12 from the earlier forecast of 7.9%.
  • GVK Biosciences entered into an alliance with the Moulder Centre for Drug Discovery Research at Temple University.
  • The Rajasthan state cabinet on 28 November 2011 approved the decision to give khatedari rights to over 30000 farmers occupying the custodian land in Alwar, Sriganganagar, Hanumangarh and Bharatpur.
  • Calcutta Stock Exchange (CSE) launched operations on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) platform on 28 November 2011.
  • Public debt management report released by the Finance Ministry revealed rise in government's internal debt rose in July-September 2011-12.
  • Afghanistan awarded mining rights for three Hajigak blocks lto an Indian consortium led by state-run SAIL.
  • Union government asserted that 30% sourcing under FDI in multi-brand retail made mandatory from Indian MSEs only.
  • The UPA-II Government set up an expert group to suggest restructuring of power utilities of seven major States, including Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh with an objective to push through power reforms and unlock the power sector.
  • The Supreme Court ruled on 28 November 2011 that awards passed by the Lok Adalat either in criminal or civil matters are bound to be implemented through a court decree.
  • The Union government of India on 23 November 2011 approved the Delhi Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Bill 2011, thus paved the way for dividing MCD into 3 corporations and to increase the reservation of seats for women to 50 percent from the current 33 percent.
  • Justice M. Karpaga Vinayagam was reappointed chairperson of the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity, Petroleum and Natural Gas.
  • Eminent Assamese litterateur, Jnanpith award winner & India's first Principal Prince Claus Laureate Indira Goswami died on 29 November 2011.
  • Delhi state government on 28 November 2011 launched a Kishori Scheme under which sanitary napkins would be distributed to adolescent girls.
  • Indian refiners processed 2.8 percent less oil in October 2011 from a year ago, the first decline since November 2010.
  • The United Naga Council (UNC) on 29 November 2011 decided to lift the economic blockade from Manipur following assurance from Union home affairs minister P Chidambaram.
  • Union Labour and Employment Minister Mallikarjun Kharge presented the Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar and National Safety awards for the performance year 2009 at a function in New Delhi. For the performance year 2009, the total number of National Safety Awards were 123.(72 winners and 51 runners-up).
