Indian Current Affairs, November 2011(Part - 1)


Hello viewers. This time I bring the current affairs of the last month that is November 2011 which is totally India related. I hope visitors may like it.
This is the first set of Indian Current Affairs, November 2011.

  • Nabam Tuki was sworn in as the seventh Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh on 1 November 2011.
  • The Union Cabinet of India approved the proposal of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for pursuing the Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) Amendment Bill, 2010.
  • Andhra Pradesh Government on 1 November 2011 launched one rupee a kilo rice scheme in the state.
  • TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) extended the 100 sms per day limit to 200 sms per day, per sim. Earlier, TRAI had restricted the number of commercial non-commercial sms that can be sent from a sim, to 100.
  • Bengali film Chaplin was selected as the inaugural film at the 11 th edition of River to River Florence Indian Film Festival.
  • Rahul Bhattacharya bagged Hindu Literary Prize for Best Fiction 2011 for his "The Sly Company of People Who Care".
  • Indian scientists succeeded in decoding the genome of the arhar dal, which is also known as pigeon pea.
  • M. Ravindran took over as Indraprastha Gas Limited 's (IGL) new Managing Director.
  • UN study ranked India at 134 out of 187 countries in terms of Human Development Index.
  • Pakistan on 2 November 2011 decided to grant India most favoured nation trade status. The Pakistani cabinet voted unanimously to grant most-favored-nation status to India.
  • Finance Ministry gave its nod to mining company Coal India for acquiring stake in overseas unlisted firms.
  • Delhi Statistical Handbook-2011 reported that Delhi's per capita income at current prices was Rs 116886 during 2009-10.
  • Playback singer Asha Bhosle entered the Guinness World Records for most number of single studio recordings.
  • Anirban Lahiri became the first Indian golfer to shoot a spectacular round of 12-under 60 on home soil.
  • State-owned oil companies on 3 November 2011 raised petrol prices by Rs 1.80 per litre.
  • The 6th G20 (Major Economies) summit was held in Cannes, France on November 3 and 4 2011 to discuss key issues in the global economy.
  • Legendary singer-composer and Padma Bhushan awardee Bhupen Hazarika died in Mumbai on 5 November 2011.
  • The Calcutta High Court on 3 November 2011 granted continuation of the stay of the trial court order validating the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act.
  • Tribal Affairs Ministry launched a scheme, Adivasi Shiksha Rinn Yojana (ASRY) on 2 November 2011 to offer subsidised education loans to Scheduled Tribe students.
  • India-Japan Defence Ministers’ Meeting was held in Tokyo on 2 November 2011.
  • Ramesh Bhaiya & Vimla Bahan, Anupam Mishra, Shobhana Ranade and Agus Indra Udayana were presented 2011 Jamnalal Bajaj Awards.
  • Uttar Pradesh government on 8 November 2011 announced the 20 percent MSP (Minimum Support Price) hike for sugarcane for the current season.
  • One in every five Indian adults living in urban cities suffers not only from hypertension but also diabetes.
  • Second annual Pushkar international balloon festival was held from 7 to 9 November 2011 in Pushkar near Ajmer, Rajasthan.
  • India won 2 awards- Best Destination & Best Marketing Campaign at the World Travel Awards 2011.
  • Global ratings firm Moody's downgraded the entire Indian banking system's rating outlook from stable to negative.
  • Kerala topped the national child rights index released by HAQ-Centre for Child Rights. Karnataka stood second while Maharashtra was third.
  • The Delhi Cabinet on 8 November 2011 decided to waive VAT on fertilsers to provide relief to the farmers.
  • Indian Army received the second regiment of indigenously produced Brahmos supersonic cruise missiles on 9 november 2011.
  • Finance Ministry decided to bring 23 more departments and ministries for grants under its monthly monitor.
  • Union Ministry of Environment and forests on 10 November 2011 approved the first stage of Lavasa township project in Pune.
  • Defence Minister A K Antony laid the foundation stone of the ambitious Rishikesh-Karnprayag railway line at Gauchar in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.
  • In Gujarat, a special designated Mehsana court on 9 November 2011 awarded life imprisonment for all the 31 accused in the 2002 Sardarpura massacre case of post Godhara riots.
  • Wheat crops in India is facing threat from a virulent strain of stem rust called UG99.
  • According to the data released by TRAI, 500 million Indians do not yet own a personal mobile device.
  • Outlook India's Editor-in-Chief and renowned journalist, Vinod Mehta's autobiography Lucknow Boy launched in New Delhi on 9 November 2011.
  • TRAI mandated 65% reservation for local mobile equipment makers.
  • A session court stated that a woman who faced harassment and ill treatment from her stepmother and step-siblings is entitled to get protection under the Domestic Violence Act.

  • Bopanna and Qureshi won their first ever ATP Masters tournament in the final of Paris Masterson 13 November 2011.
  • Two-day long Kite festival was organised by the Delhi Tourism to educate masses about the history of flying kite.
  • India has the highest number of flu-related pneumonia deaths among children with more than 370000 children dying due to pneumonia.
  • Pioneering Indian American biochemist Har Gobind Khorana, who won the 1968 Nobel Prize for medicine, died on 9 November 2011.
  • The Rajasthan government implemented the Public Service Guarantee Act in the state on 14 November 2011.
  • India and Pakistan held two-day trade talks in New Delhi on 14 and 15 November 2011.
  • India's most advanced long-range missile, Agni-IV was test fired successfully on 15 November 2011 from a road-mobile launcher on Wheeler Island, off the coast of Orissa.
  • Ministry of Environment and Forests granted clearance to Jindal Power for its 2400 MW power project at Tamnar.
  • Petrol price was slashed by Rs. 2.22 on 15 November 2011, for the first time in almost three years.
  • General Motors announced on 15 November 2011 the appointment of Lowell Paddock as president & MD of India operations.
  • A team of six scientists at the Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP) developed a new technology to convert plastic into petroleum products.
  • Chinese Ambassador to India, Zhang Yan on 17 November 2011 handed over the cheque of 1 million US dollars for construction of a library in Nalanda International University (NIU).
  • The Assam government launched a pilot project to vaccinate girls against human papiloma virus(HPV) causing cervical cancer.
  • Titan Industries to acquire Swiss watch brand Favre Leuba for up to 2 million Euro.
  • Karnataka’s Saurabh Sangvekar created a national record by swimming in the 800m freestyle in a time of 8:12.57 seconds.
  • Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure approved 15 projects for highway construction of about 1814 kilometres.
  • Survey of eight sectors conducted by the labour ministry revealed that employment in eight sectors grew 2.15% during April-June 2011.
  • RBI decided to buy government bonds worth 10,000 crore from investors for the first time in the 2011-12 fiscal.
