Indian Current Affairs, October 2011 (Part - 2)

Hello viewers. This time I bring the current affairs of the last month that is October 2011 which is totally India related. I hope visitors may like it.
This is the second set of Indian Current Affairs, October 2011.

  • Fauja Singh (100) recognised as the oldest person to complete full-distance marathon at the Toronto Waterfront Marathon.
  • MC Mary Kom won gold in the 51kg category at 12th Senior Women's National Boxing Championships.
  • The fith summit of IBSA (India Brazil South Africa) concluded on 18 October 2011 in Pretoria, South Africa.
  • The Supreme Court of India on 17 October 2011 directed all states and union territories (UTs) to build toilets, particularly for girls, in all government schools.
  • India signed a deal with a Sri Lankan firm worth over 300 crore rupees to procure 80 fast-interception craft (FIC). These FICs will equip Navy's Sagar Prahari Bal.
  • The Union Government of India finalised a developmental action plan called Saranda Action plan for Naxal Affected districts in Naxal affected districts particularly in eastern India.
  • Bharti Airtel launched special Formula One Race Pack for F1 fans in Bangalore.
  • Magsaysay awardee Sandeep Pandey to fast in protest against the Planning Commission’s definition of poverty and setting of BPL benchmark.
  • UP Government raised the Age Limit from 35 to 40 years for Recruitment of Primary School Teachers.
  • Commonwealth Games gold-medallist Krishna Poonia wongold at Halloween Throws Meet at Portland on 17 October 2011.
  • 2011 Durand Cup, the 124th edition of the Durand Cup was won by the Churchill Brothers.
  • The union government of India decided to ban the use of infertility drug Letrozole which is mainly recommended for treating Cancer patients.
  • Veteran Congress leader and former Karnataka minister K H Ranganath died in Bangalore on 18 october 2011.
  • The Rajasthan Government launched a web based Social Security Pension System at Jaipur.
  • Indian Railways launched RTIS through which passengers can access the accurate train running information.
  • Aman Sethi won International Committee of the Red Cross award for the best Indian print media article on humanitarian issues.
  • Olympic champion Abhinav Bindra won the air rifle silver in the fourth Asian airgun shooting championship in Kuwait.
  • Eminent Malayalam novelist George Varghese Kakkanadan breathed his last on 19 October 2011 in Kollam.
  • RBI permitted Indians who have non-resident accounts in the country to hold them in any currency which is fully convertible.
  • India and Vietnam signed six agreements on 12 October 2011during the visit of Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang to India.
  • Dr M K Mani, pioneer of nephrology in India was on 20 October 2011 declared the winner of the 40th Dhanvantari Award.
  • A pedestrian suspension bridge collapse in Bijanbari, near Darjeeling, West Bengal, India, kills at least 34 people and injures over 100.
  • Union Ministry of Rural Development cleared the proposal to construct playground in villages under the 60 Integrated Action Plan districts.
  • Agriculture Ministry of India proposed a hike of Rs 115 per quintal in MSP of wheat to Rs 1285 per quintal.
  • Food inflation stood at 10.6% in the week ended 8 October 2011.
  • President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, HEU Thein Sein visited India from 12 to 15 October 2011. During this visit, India and Myanmar agreed to step up cooperation in oil and natural gas.
  • Jammu Kashmir topped the List in Utilizing the Fund for Minorities. It utilized over 60 percent of the total Funds till September 2011.
  • Former Goldman Sachs and Procter and Gamble director Rajat Gupta pleads not guilty to the charge of leaking confidential information to convicted fraudster Raj Rajaratnam.
  • Indian superhero film Ra.One, the most expensive Bollywood film to date, is released to coincide with the Hindu festival of Diwali.
  • The Union government of India prepared a blueprint to provide jobs to three-lakh youths in 60 naxal affected districts in India.
  • The Supreme Court of India ruled that the Centre has absolute powers to decide the terms and conditions for telecom operators as neither the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, TRAI, nor the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal, TDSAT, can overrule it.
  • India won 5 matches one-day series by 5-0 by defeating England. Ravindra Jadeja of team India was declared Man of the Match, while Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was awarded with Man of the Series.
  • The Prime Minister of Nepal, Baburam Bhattarai visited India from 20 October 2011 to 23 October 2011. During the visit, India and Nepal signed 3 mou/agreement.
  • Renowned litterateur Srilal Shukla died at a hospital in Lucknow on 28 October 2011 following prolonged illness.
  • On 29th October, Uttarakhand state cabinet cleared Uttarakhand Lokayukta Bill, 2011 with the objective of curbing corruption in the state.
  • Thirty people are feared dead after a footbridge in India's Arunachal Pradesh collapses into the Kameng River on 29th October.
  • Niira Radia,Corporate lobbyist and provider of public relations services for the Tata group and Reliance Industries on 30 October 2011 announced her exit from the business of communication consultancy.
  • Union Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Textiles sanctioned 21 new Textiles Parks under the Scheme for Integrated Textiles Parks with a project cost of 2100 crores rupees to be implemented over a period of 36 months.
  • India beat England in Fifth and Final One-Day and Won the Series by 5-0.
